Delta State Approves New Salary Scale for Tertiary Workers

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a new salary structure for staff across the state’s four state-owned universities, with implementation taking effect from August 2026 for academic personnel and September 2026 for non-academic workers and other tertiary institutions.

Governor Oborevwori announced the fiscal adjustment on Tuesday in Asaba during the swearing-in of the newly appointed State Auditor-General, Mr. Emasogbe Matthew Oghene, and the formal inauguration of the Governing Councils for the University of Delta, Agbor; Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba; and Southern Delta University, Ozoro.

Highlighting the expansion of higher education in the state, Oborevwori noted that the four state universities have successfully introduced accredited professional degree programs—including Medicine, Law, Nursing, and Accounting. According to state government metrics, total student enrolment across the state’s university system expanded from approximately 50,000 students in 2023 to over 100,000 in 2026.

The governor commended university administrators and staff unions for maintaining 17 consecutive years of uninterrupted academic calendars across state institutions, attributing the stability to continuous state government investment and proactive labor relations.
