Construction Workers Trapped, Others Injured As Building Collapse In Ikoyi

A seven-storey building at First Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi Lagos state, collapsed yesterday evening with some construction workers trapped inside.

Reports say many of the workers were injured while others jumped when the building caved in.

At about 8.30 pm seven construction workers were rescued while an undisclosed number of persons were still trapped.

The Spokesperson for the Lagos Fire Service and Rescue Service, Amodu Shakiri, confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, the cause of the collapse has not been ascertained as efforts are being made by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,  to rescue victims of the unfortunate incident. But emergency responders at the scene said only one person was still under the debris.
