The 6th edition of the much anticipated TV reality show, Big Brother Naija (BBN 2021) is around the corner and a whopping N90 million is all for grasps MultiChoice has announced. The amount is the highest ever in the history of the show which first aired in 2006.

While on the business side, the show offers bountiful returns for the South African conglomerate, however, many Nigerians believe it is nothing but a celebration of immorality. They argue that despite the numerous talents, entrepreneurs begging for seed sponsors and the need to showcase educational brilliance of youths, a reality tv show is the least desirable. Their position is based on a moral premise not justified by business model in the entertainment industry.

Entertainment is big business. Any show which will compete with Big Brother Naija must possess the element of entertainment and education. For a reality TV show to be widely acceptable, it must leverage on the youthful energy, a blend of music, lifestyle and street vibes.

Any educational content must have the capacity for big things, employ celebrities, and social media influenzas to create awareness. With a mix of laughter, talent and information, a competitive show can emerge and we wouldn’t miss out on the money.
