Gunmen Attack Gov. Adeleke’s Convoy in Osogbo

Panic and fear have gripped residents in Osogbo, especially those around the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, after gunmen attacked the convoy of Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly took place at 3:15 when the Osun Governor arrived at the Oba’s palace after collecting his Certificate of Return from INEC headquarters. Adeleke had just left through an exit door used by the king when sporadic gunshots were heard.

It was gathered that trouble started brewing at the end of the meeting when the Oba had made prayers. The gunmen, who had arrived in a Sienna, exchanged fire with the palace security for 12 to 15 minutes before fleeing the scene.

The incident has been confirmed by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who stated that the governor’s security personnel successfully repelled the assailants and no casualties were recorded.
