An indefinite strike has been enacted by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Oyo State following the kidnapping and continued captivity of students and teachers of Oriire LGA.

From June 1, 2026, all the teachers are to withdraw their services and convene for a solidarity protest on Tuesday, June 2, across all state chapters, which will end at the government house.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by NUT National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, and Secretary General, Dr. Clinton J. Ikpitibo.

The tension in Oyo keeps rising with recent videos released by the terrorists as the children are being tortured, with their teachers pleading for help, while rumors make the rounds that some might be dead.

The union stressed that education cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, vowing to continue lawful pressure until all the kidnapped victims regain their freedom, as teachers and students must never be targets.
