False Bandits Alarm in Oyo – Police
Post created on 11:26 am

Panic spread over parts of Ogbomoso, neighboring communities, and Ajaawa Town in Oyo State today, Tuesday, as students kept running on rumors that bandits had invaded Are-Ago High School, Ogbomoso.
The video of the students running was shared online, but the Oyo State Police Command, in a statement through the PPRO, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, revealed that it was a false alarm and that normalcy has been restored in Ogbomoso and the adjoining communities.
Operatives were immediately deployed to the scene and met with the school principal, Mrs. Akanbi Ruth, who explained that the alarm originated from information allegedly circulated among some students who claimed that certain unfamiliar individuals had been sighted behind the school fence.
However, preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals involved were an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to the Kwara State Command in Ilorin and two civilians found in a Toyota Venza SUV who had visited a female acquaintance to celebrate her birthday.
An altercation reportedly occurred between some teachers and the visitors, heightening suspicion within the school premises, which caused some students to begin spreading unverified claims to neighboring schools and surrounding communities, escalating panic and tension.
The statement further revealed that NSCDC authorities in Ogbomoso were contacted to verify the identity and status of the officer, as calm has been restored.
