While reacting to an old tweet from the Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Joash Amupitan, the ICT director, Lawrence Bayode, disclosed that their findings will not be based on AI analysis and screenshots.

Controversies sparked when the post resurfaced on X, with Amupitan quoting, “Today I rejoice, not just for delivering my polling unit, but for winning 7 of the 10 polling units in my nearby Igbo-dominated community where APC have NEVER WON… I sat with the youth of the community and forged a partnership.”

Critics and the opposition called it partisan and demanded his immediate resignation as INEC chair, but the electoral body has repeatedly dismissed the claims, describing them as false and part of a coordinated misinformation campaign.

INEC insisted that Amupitan does not operate any personal X account and has never engaged in partisan political commentary; however, security agencies are tracking those behind the impersonation.
