There has been another outcry by civil groups and Nigerians that the Electoral Act Amendment Bill has been tampered with, just as it was with the Tax Reform Bill.

This has led the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) to petition the Code of Conduct Bureau to investigate members of the Senate and other public officers over the alleged irregularities in the passage of both the Electoral Act and the Tax Reform Laws.

The allegations by SERAP fault the passage process of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill Alteration in signing the Tax Reform Laws without the approval of the National Assembly.

According to SERAP, in a statement on Sunday by the Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, it called for a probe as some members of the Senate allegedly removed the provisions on electronic transmission of election results from the Electoral Act Amendment Bill during plenary after the majority of the senators had voted for the inclusion of the provisions and without any debate on the proposed removal of the said provisions.

However, the Senate denied removing the provisions on electronic transmission of election results, stating that it only removed the term “real time” from the sentence, citing judicial concerns.
