There has been an approved increment of salaries for the president, vice president, governors, lawmakers including the judiciary and public office holders with 114 per cent by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

RMAFC is the body responsible for determining the remuneration appropriated to political officeholders including the President.

The House of Assembly in the 36 states of the nation have been urged by the commission to make relevant changes to give room for an upward review of the remuneration packages for public officers.

At Kebbi State the presentation of the remuneration was made by RMAFC chairman Muhammadu Shehu who was represented by a federal commissioner, Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba to the state governor, Dr Nasir Idris.

That the implementation of the reviewed remuneration packages started January 1, 2023, and it is in line with the provision of paragraph 32(d) of part 1 of the third schedule of the 1999 constitution of the federal government.

Shehu said the review of the remuneration was done in 2007 and culminated in certain political, public and judicial officeholders’ salaries and allowances.

According to the chairman of the commission they have subjectively reviewed the salary packages and it adheres to the rules of equity and fairness, risk and responsibilities amongst others.

However, RMAFC Public Relations Officer, Christian Nwachukwu has denied the report stating that President Bola Tinubu has not approved the increment of salaries of public servants.

Nwachukwu said the bill has not been approved as it is still under process until President Tinubu gives assent to it.
