INEC Uncovers Plot to Kidnap NYSC Election Staff Ahead of 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uncovered an alleged plot to threaten, intimidate, and kidnap ad-hoc electoral personnel—including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)—ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed the security breach, stating that intelligence-led operations conducted in collaboration with security agencies led to the tracking and arrest of suspected ringleaders linked to the plot.

Amupitan confirmed that the Department of State Services (DSS) has formally charged the arrested suspects to court following preliminary investigations.

The commission chairman issued a stern warning against attempts to undermine election logistics or target field officers, reiterating that anyone attempting to harm or coerce electoral personnel will face the full weight of the law.
