Resident Doctors Issue Two-Week Strike Ultimatum to Federal Government

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a strict two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve persistent welfare grievances and professional demands, warning that failure to act will result in nationwide industrial action.

The warning notice was contained in an official communique released at the conclusion of the association’s 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Calabar, Cross River State.

Presenting the communique, newly appointed NARD President Dr. Emmanuel Ogar expressed severe concern over the protracted implementation of formal agreements previously reached between the medical union and federal authorities.

The resident doctors highlighted critical operational challenges destabilizing the health sector, demanding immediate intervention on stalled remuneration, delayed career progression, unpaid professional allowances, severe manpower shortages, and excessive doctor-to-patient workloads.

Calling for immediate executive action, NARD emphasized that the two-week window represents a final opportunity for the government to honor its commitments to healthcare workers and avert a major disruption across federal and state tertiary hospitals nationwide.
