A new and improved move to reintegrate repentant terrorists has been introduced by the Federal Government. This comes after a motion had been debated in the red chamber seeking stricter measures against acts of terrorism.

However, the new operational framework was disclosed on Monday in Abuja by the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser, Maj Gen Adamu Laka, at the National Validation Workshop on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) at the federal level and in the pilot states of Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara.

According to Laka, this is an effort by the nation to widely tackle insecurity through non-military measures while providing practical guidelines for implementing the programme, strengthening accountability, transparency, and collaboration among relevant agencies after extensive consultations had been conducted with stakeholders.
