FG Suspends N50k WASSCE Fee

Following outrage over the increment of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), the hike has been suspended by the federal government for a possible review.

The body had earlier announced on June 18th a N50,000 uniform increase across WASSCE and SSCE, but on Monday, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, retracted the letter.

According to the ministry, the economic hardship is affecting printing materials, logistics, etc., but despite all this, the suspension was to give room for review and further engagement with stakeholders, as the Honorable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, has also directed a hold in line with the federal government.
