Women’s Ministry Condemns Breast Grabbing in Haiti

Condemnations have followed the incident at Saint-Pierre High School in Plaine-du-Nord, Haiti, where young girls were sexually abused under the guise of a Festi Colour event, as young men grabbed the girls’ breasts.

Videos were circulating online, with some of the girls looking shocked, others laughing at it, while a few refused to have their shirts painted in such disguise.

However, Haiti’s Ministry of Women’s Conditions and Rights has condemned the acts, expressing indignation over the sexual assault and harassment committed against the young girls during the festival.

The Northern Departmental Directorate of the Ministry, Philoria Mompoint, stated that the acts constitute serious violations of women’s dignity and their physical and psychological integrity.

Though those involved have not been publicly identified, the organizer of the event, Mr. Judson, issued an apology on April 5 without clarifying whether his staff would face consequences.
