No fewer than 95 suspects have been arrested for various crimes in one month by the Delta State Police Command and recovered over 16 firearms.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, disclosed this during his monthly news briefing on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Olufemi stated that the arrests were made in the month of September 2025 through intelligence-led operations and sustained community collaboration.

He said, “The command arrested 95 suspects and recovered 16 firearms, 94 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, and a truck loaded with illicit drugs in various operations across the state.

“On October 1, 2025, a surveillance team from the ‘B’ Division, Asaba, acting on a distress call about a robbery incident around the Bonsaac area, swiftly moved to the scene where a female victim had been robbed of her phone and valuables at gunpoint.

“Working with local vigilantes, the team conducted a cordon operation that led to the arrest of one suspect, 21-year-old Amara Nwako, an indigene of Oko.

“A locally made cut-to-size gun was recovered, while his accomplice escaped into an uncompleted building. A manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.”

According to the CP, on September 17, 2025, a joint team of Ogwashi-Uku Division officers and local vigilantes intercepted three men on a motorcycle, Emmanuel Ibekwe, 25; Victor Chibuzor, 25, and Zakaria Joro, 25, all residents of Ogwashi-Uku, and led to the recovery of an English pistol loaded with two live rounds of ammunition during a search.

Olufemi noted the command rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Rebecca Mathew, who had been abducted and hypnotised by a suspected human trafficker, Bila Halili of Kosso Community, Sokoto State.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Agbor Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, raided the suspect’s residence in Oza Nogogo Community, where the victim was found in a traumatised state.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had lured the young girl from her home, destroyed her SIM card to cut communication, and kept her captive.

“The victim has since been reunited with her family, while the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue,” he added.

He said the command’s renewed operational strategy, anchored on rapid response, inter-agency cooperation, and local intelligence sharing, has continued to yield impressive results, calling on the residents for a reliable and timely information.
