Sowore Charged in Court for Failing to Delete Post Against Tinubu

The Nigerian government, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), has filed a petition against Omoyele Sowore and Meta (Facebook) and X Corp as defendants for a malicious post made against President Bola Tinubu.
The case is a five-count charge brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja after the DSS had, on Monday, September 8, told Sowore to delete the post within seven days or face the consequences.
The 2023 presidential candidate had made a social media post tagging President Tinubu as a criminal liar during his trip to Brazil for saying that corruption has reduced in his administration.
The DSS described the statement as false, malicious, and capable of inciting chaos in the country. Even though X and Facebook were told to delete the post, the companies never obliged, hence the reason for the petition.
The charges were filed at the High Court by the Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Minister Muhammed Abubakar, and lawyers for the DSS.
