Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Delta State, Joseph Otirhue, says recent verification exercise carried out by the commission revealed that many workers who had abandoned their duty post and travelled overseas for years and were still on the pay role have been expunged.
Otirhue, who made the revelation in Asaba during an interactive session with newsmen, said many of the ghost workers detected in the verification were said to have travelled out of the country for years and were still receiving salaries from local government councils.
He hinted that names of workers who had died, as well as those found wanting and had gone on retirement, had also been removed from the payroll of local government councils.
The Chairman revealed that much money had been saved for the councils following the verification exercise.
The Delta State Local Government Service Commission Chairman, while highlighting some landmark achievements, noted that the Commission was saddled with the mandate to train and retrain staff of the Commission to enable them work efficiently and effectively for optimal performance in their various levels in local government across the state.
