I was just an Innocent ND 1 student going to school when I was kidnapped along Police Staff College Road around 9 am yesterday.

This was the statement of 17-year-old Basil Benjamin who was arrested for trying to bomb a commercial bank in Jos, Plateau state.

Parading the suspect at the Police Command Headquarters in Jos, Benjamin a civil engineering student with Plateau State Polytechnic narrated how kidnappers caught him, strapped a bomb around his waist told him to enter United Bank of Africa, UBA and demanded 100 million naira.

He said he wasn’t going to do it but the kidnappers promised to kill him if he raised any alarm at the bank, that he should tell them he was strapped with an explosive while his gang were waiting with ammunitions outside.

A cyclist was called by the kidnappers who took him to the bank at Dadinkowa. It was after he told the cashier who had agreed to give him the N100m, he saw people scrapping for safety.

Benjamin said he thought the kidnappers had entered the bank to kill him as promised, and with fear, he ran out, that was when he was caught by the bank security and discovered it was a fake bomb strapped to his body.

The Police commissioner said his case had been transferred to the state CID for proper investigation to ascertain if the story was true and get the suspects arrested.
