Following recent fire incident in Ubeji involving  a diesel laden tanker, Hon Augustine Uroye, the member representing Warri South Constituency One in the Delta State House of Assembly has called for urgent establishment of well-equipped and functional fire-fighting stations along the Ubeji and Ifiekporo Axis.

A tanker laden with diesel had on Friday caught on fire, in Ubeji community, in Warri South LGA.

Eyewitness reports say community youths halted the driver of the tanker for driving against traffic, and negotiated to collect diesel instead as a fine.

According to reports, in the process of bailing out the petroleum product, one of the youths had a lit cigarette with him and that caused the fire outbreak that claimed a life.

Hon Uroye in an interview with newsman said the importance of fire stations cannot be over emphasized given the presence of about seven tank farms in the area.

He therefore called on the community leadership, tank farm operators and the local government authority to as a matter of urgency synergize and ensure establishment of functional fire stations that will handle emergency fire situations.

On the calls for establishment of an alternative route to the community, Uroye said it may not be feasible for now.
