Ooni of Ife’s wife quits as Queen after 3 years

Queen Silekunola Naomi has ended her three-year marriage with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II.

She released a statement on Thursday, December 23, 2021 noting that she no longer wants to be known as the ‘wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife’.

The prophetess said their marriage had been rocky, suggesting the king had ‘side attractions’ that were never an issue for her.

She also dismissed allegations that she already had another child before her marriage to the monarch.

“Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the close of a chapter. Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift. I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection,” she said.

The couple have a baby who was born last year.
