The Delta State Government has stated that the decision to upgrade three tertiary institutions to universities is aimed at eliminating wasteful expenditures and expand the admission options for Deltans seeking university education.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare gave the exlplanation to journalists at a news conference in Asaba. He disclosed that the state government spends about N458million on 1,895 staff of the three Colleges of Education which have a low number of students.

“With about 1,000 public and private secondary schools in the state that graduate SS3 students every year, there is need to establish new universities by upgrading the tertiary institutions to avoid keeping students on university admission’s waiting lists,” Prof. Muoboghare said
