How can you be served for nine years and you settle your apprentice with N100,000? These are questions raised by some traders and apprentices at Anambra State International Electrical Market, Obosi/Onitsha, after a trader settled his apprentice N100,000 on Saturday.

The protest took place in front of the man’s shop, where the others demanded the master to increase the payment of the apprentice who has served him for nine years.

Reacting to the issue, Anambra Broadcasting Service MD and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Uche Nworah, said abuse in apprenticeship has been noticed and they are partnering with Awka Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture to convene a summit on Igbo apprenticeship.

Nworah said the objective of the summit is reposition apprenticeship scheme and bring out the positive side of it so as to remain relevant in the 21st century.
